Wax Works

In 2011, some huge lumps of wax were washed up on the north Norfolk coast.  We melted down chunks of it and made a series of wax dishes, all with wicks embedded in them.  Then followed a series of visits to the beach, attempts to light them and float them which were mostly frustrated by the wind, interspersed with experiments on the tideline with pigments.  Finally we found two pieces of water sheltered enough to burn the dishes – one a pool of sea water under an old groin on the beach, and the other a little pool in a small stream at the bottom of a garden.
